Celebrating Excellence: Touch New Zealand, Pūmanawa Āwhina & Quality Events Awards Night

The Touch New Zealand Awards Night was a remarkable evening, celebrating the outstanding achievements and contributions within our Touch community. Held at Bruce Pulman on 15 August, the event brought together our team across Touch New Zealand, Pūmanawa Āwhina and Quality Events.

The evening kicked off with a warm welcome and karakia, setting the tone for a night filled with recognition, inspiration, and reflection. Attendees enjoyed a dinner while reflecting on the year's successes, with a slideshow of photos capturing the spirit of our team within the Touch community.

As the night unfolded, awards were presented in various categories, each recognising different aspects of excellence within the sport.

Pūmanawa Āwhina Awards:

  • Kotahitanga Award: Zoe Smith (KURACONNECT) was recognised for her outstanding efforts in promoting unity and collaboration within her community.
  • Mana Manaaki Award: Mele Latu (TĀMAKI TOUCHED) was honored for her dedication to fostering care and support among her peers.
  • Whakamanawa Award: Komene Marino (MID NORTH COMMUNITY CONNECT) received this award for his inspirational leadership and ability to empower others.
  • Hautūtanga Ngākau Tuwhera Award: Norelle Taringa (TAMAKI TOUCHED) was celebrated for her open-hearted leadership and commitment to community engagement.
  • Wāhine Taitamariki Award: Phylis Latu (MOVING MANUREWA) was acknowledged for her exceptional work in encouraging young women in sport.
  • Pūmanawa Āwhina Coordinator of the Year: Zoe Smith (KURACONNECT) was again recognised for her exceptional coordination skills and dedication to the sport. 

Touch New Zealand Awards:

  • Performance & Leadership Award (He Pou Angitū): Sandi Hackett received this award for her exceptional mentorship and leadership, which has significantly contributed to the success of the team and organisation.
  • Partnership & Initiative Award (He Pou Mahi Tahi): The award was given to the "Igniting Potential in Rangatahi" initiative for its forward-thinking and sustainable approach to engaging youth in sport.
  • People - Community Award (He Pou Tangata): Steven Beazley was honored for his efforts in fostering community cohesion and building strong connections within the Touch community.
  • Participation Award (He Pou Whai Wāhi): George Jahnke was recognized for his work in increasing participation and fostering confidence among players.
  • Staff Choice Award: Sandi Hackett was celebrated once more for her overall excellence, being a standout team player and a source of positivity within the organisation. 

The night also included long service awards, honouring individuals who have dedicated years of their lives to the sport. Tamara Hill, Jo Mangu, Sandi Hackett, Naomi Mani, Pam, and George were acknowledged for their long-standing commitment and contributions to Touch New Zealand.

The awards night was not just a celebration of individual achievements but also a testament to the strength, unity, and passion that defines the Touch community.

As we look forward to the exciting tournaments and initiatives ahead, we carry with us the spirit of excellence and dedication that was so beautifully celebrated on this memorable night.
